It all started with observing the school curriculum of my daughter, a 7th-grader at a Ukrainian school. As a person who understands the subject, I could not help but notice how many empty topics there were in her computer science curriculum. Every time I looked through another lesson or assignment, I repeated to her that with such an approach it was impossible to grasp the basics of computer literacy. After all, computer science is not just a subject, it is the key to understanding modern reality.
The culmination of my frustration was one of her tests, in which the “most important” question was: “How do I add an email to my address book?” This is in the 7th grade! My patience snapped. At first, I was indignant and critical, but then I remembered the old truth: “If you criticize, suggest; if you suggest, do it.” This is how the idea of creating my own computer science training program was born .
I started with a general plan that covered the main topics needed to develop digital skills. Then I developed detailed topics for elementary, middle, and high school, and then divided them into grades and quarters. Gradually, teaching materials for each lesson were created.
I realize that my work is unlikely to radically change the entire education system. However, I believe that this is an investment in the future. Perhaps other teachers and methodologists will pay attention to the project, and in the future it will receive broader support, up to the state level.
The peculiarity of my approach is a multilingual platform. In our country there are many Russian-speaking teachers who need to conduct classes in Ukrainian. To simplify the process, all materials are translated into several languages: Russian, Ukrainian, English, German, French and Spanish. Any manual can be switched to the desired language, which allows you to focus on learning, and not on language barriers.
Computer literacy is the foundation of modern society, and it is necessary not only in Ukraine, but also in many other countries. That is why the materials are available in various languages, which makes them convenient for studying outside of Ukraine. I invite all interested parties to familiarize themselves with the project , study it, distribute it and make their suggestions. If you notice errors or want to suggest ideas for improvement, write to me.
